Martin Atilla from Latvia Wins 2018 Palamos Optimist Trophy

Latvian sailor Martín Atilla (BSS) has been the absolute winner of the 29 Palamós Optimist Trophy-13 Nations Cup, held from 15th to 18th February in the bay of Palamós with the participation of 551 sailors from 30 nations. Spanish sailor María Perelló (CN S’Arenal) has been second overall and first girl and third place on the podium has been for French sailor Manhes Andréa (ASPTT Marseille). Spain has once again won the Nations Cup trophy.

It has been a complicated week with very light winds on the first three days with three groups being able to sail only one race and two races sailed by the other two groups.  Sunday, was therefore a decisive day with races required to have regatta results.

This last day started as the other, with hardly any wind and the Race Committee struggling to get racing underway. Finally, after 13.00h a SW wind which reached 12 knots started to blow in the bay and all five groups could finally complete 3 races.

The “Martinet” trophy, to the best sailor of the local Club - Club Nàutic Costa Brava/Vela Palamós- was for Ona García, who finished the Palamós Optimist Trophy-Nations Cup within the top 100, in 81st place.

The Organisation is already planning the 30th edition of the event to be held from 14th to 17th  February 2019.
